Python bindings on OSX

Postby swederik » Fri Jul 27, 2012 7:43 pm

I'm having trouble getting the python bindings to work on 64 bit Mac OSX 10.7.

I'm running the 32 bit Enthought Python Distribution and I get:

Code: Select all
ImportError: dlopen(/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/7.3/lib/python2.7/site-packages/, 2): Symbol not found: __Z9af_errstrv
  Referenced from: /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/7.3/lib/python2.7/site-packages/
  Expected in: dynamic lookup

whenever I try to import arrayfire.

I've got CUDA running properly and the non-python arrayfire examples work fine. This is on the most recent version of ArrayFire.

Any ideas?

Hi Erik,

arrayfire python is currently not tested for Enthought python. Can you try using arrayfire with the version of python available here (

Thanks for the tip, now I can import it perfectly :)

It did mean I had to reinstall everything and rebuild a lot from scratch though. It would really be fantastic if you could get it to install properly under Enthought, as that's one of the easiest solutions for a new Python installation, and it's very commonly used in science.
